About

My name is Lindsay Laguna, and I am about connecting people, resources, and cultures.

In particular, I am interested in making these connections for college students.

My own educational background is varied.  I graduated magna cum laude with my B.A. in International Studies from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with minors in Sociology and Spanish.  Later I earned my Ed.M. in Higher Education from Harvard University.

I have worked with a wide spectrum of organizations:  public and private universities, nonprofits, and school districts.  I have gained experience with student affairs, college access, career development, international education, civic engagement, scholarships, community outreach, recruitment, educational counseling, teaching, mentoring, and program management.

Through these experiences, I have enjoyed meeting a diverse range of students:  traditional and nontraditional students (i.e. adult learners), undergraduates, and graduate students.

Having worked with students who were in different phases of their education and different stages of life, I have developed a strong appreciation for the unique reasons that each individual has for pursuing higher education.

After years of guiding students who are either preparing for higher education or are already in it, I have learned this:

Which school you attend is important, but even more important is how you choose to live while you are in school.  As a student, you create your experience.  You create your opportunities.  You create your social network.  You create your campus … and I'm here to help you survive and thrive as you're creating it.
